The New Wave Teaching School Alliance has designed a series of generic and bespoke Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities accessible across the Alliance.

Introduction to Autism

The Garden is a new special needs school in the London Borough of Hackney. We provide an ‘outstanding’ education (OFSTED, 2014) for pupils aged 4-16, all of whom have severe learning difficulties, and the majority of whom have a diagnosis of autism. This is The Garden’s area of expertise! Everything we do here is designed to address the key deficits of autism, and we are fortunate to be able to do so in an award winning/architect-designed building.

Assessing Without Levels

Assessing Without Levels sounds scary. Where do we start? How are teachers going to cope with the change? Luckily we are here to help.

Effective Marking and Feedback

In our Federation we wholeheartedly embrace the philosophy of ‘Marking for Progress.’ As professionals, we spend a vast amount of our time marking, so it has to count.

Writing Within a Thematic Curriculum

In our Federation we encourage excellent writing across the curriculum.

Effect Use of iPad Across the Primary Curriculum

Mobile learning is becoming more common within classroom practice and this one-day course enables delegates to experience, gain confidence and utilise the iPad within the learning environment. iPads are available for use on the day although we highly recommend you bring your own.

Deeper Understanding in Maths (DOK)

Children in our schools succeed in Mathematics because their learning is deepened not accelerated. In our schools we use Webb's 'Depth of Knowledge' to empower teachers to develop the children's understanding, find opportunities to assess and clarify the learning of their group.
