The Garden is a new special needs school in the London Borough of Hackney. We provide an ‘outstanding’ education (OFSTED, 2014) for pupils aged 4-16, all of whom have severe learning difficulties, and the majority of whom have a diagnosis of autism. This is The Garden’s area of expertise! Everything we do here is designed to address the key deficits of autism, and we are fortunate to be able to do so in an award winning/architect-designed building.
|Cost of course:||£130.00 per delegate (limited to 8 spaces)|
|Duration of course:||1/2 day|
|Who should attend:||Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Sencos|
According to the National Autistic Society (NAS), there are approximately 700,000 people living in the UK with autism, which makes it highly likely that most teachers, at some point in their careers, will have a pupil with this lifelong and disabling condition in their class. The Garden is a new, state-of-the-art school in Stoke Newington that provides both a specialist environment and education for reception, primary and secondary aged pupils with autism. Research-based practice underpins everything that we do. Course delegates will have the opportunity to learn about autism, find out about how pupils with autism prefer to learn, and see outstanding practice in action by visiting various classes throughout the school. This is bound to provide delegates with a whole host of ideas as to how they might provide effective support for pupils with autism within their own school settings.
